Five Years Celebrating Poets

Puffling Press LLC Seeking Editorial Intern for Spring 2020

Puffling Press LLC is a small Maine publishing start-up. We publish books that sing of a love of nature, relish in the peace of place, inspire enthusiasm about our world, explore authenticity and/or motivate change. We publish the Frost Meadow Review, a biannual poetry publication focusing on the voices of New England. The Frost Meadow Review invites one poet per season to share a collection of 10-20 poems and their perspective in an interview. Selected works are also published from submissions each volume. One poem from the general submissions is selected each season to receive the Editor’s Choice Award.

The editorial internship position will run from January 15th to June 1, 2020. The editorial intern’s responsibilities can include writing press releases, composing blog posts and promotional emails, proofreading, assembling press kits, representing the press to potential retailers and more. The intern may also be responsible for writing copy, conducting interviews with authors, and promoting our catalog of products.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Proofreading ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Word, the Google Suite and social media platforms
  • Ability to work under a deadline and multitask
  • Interest in the small press publishing industry
  • Ability to travel to retailers in the Southern Maine area (travel stipend will be negotiated based on extent of travel required).

Interns are asked to devote 10 hours per week to their assignments. They will be asked to meet with the Editor in person once a week to review work and assignments. The rest of the work can be done remotely. Meetings will be held in Gorham, Maine. While this is an unpaid internship, interns gain real-world experience in the ins and outs of independent publishing and develop their portfolio of work for future employment opportunities. We welcome and encourage a diverse array of applicants. Even if you don’t think you quite qualify but want to learn, please apply.

To apply, please send a resume and a brief cover letter detailing your interest in the position to our editor, Emily Matthews, at emilyjtmatthews@pufflingpress.com by December 31, 2019.
